Democratic, socially just, and economically prosperous communities.
Our Mission

Our Core Values
- Active Citizenship: engaged, empowered and responsible
- Equity: not less to ‘the haves,’ but more to ‘the have-nots.’
- Collaboration: achieve more, better, for longer with others.
- Innovation: in spirit, thought and action.
- Accountability: to our people, peers, partners and legitimate authority
Who We Are
The Civic Centre exists to advance the principles and practice of active citizenship, promote accountable and democratic governance, and defend the constitutional promise of equality and non-discrimination. The Centre derives its inspiration, vision, and mandate primarily from the promises of the progressive Constitution of Kenya (CoK) 2010, reinforced by global, continental and regional legal instruments and policy standards that recognize the right to participatory, democratic, and dignified development for all.
Through research and knowledge generation, convenings, strategic engagements and catalytic civic actions, the Centre aspires to be a catalyst of meaningful citizen participation and an effective defender of social justice, human dignity, and the public interest whenever and wherever these may be threatened. The Civic Centre pursues its vision of democratic, socially just and economically prosperous communities through five broad thematic pillars encompassing governance, equality, opportunity, environment and capacity development.
Our Programmes
Our Strategies
Knowledge
We generate knowledge and improve access to enabling information by citizens, leaders, and decision-makers for public interest decision-making.
Convenings
We convene inclusive community and stakeholder dialogues to generate common ground on shared issues, build ownership and catalyse action.
Strategic Encounters
We pursue constructive engagements with key influentials, leaders, duty bearers, policy and/or decision makers to enable them act in public interest, deepen their understanding of issues and (re)build trust with an expectant public.
Catalytic Civic Action
We work with interested citizens, communities, groups and partners to catalyse direct civic, policy and legal action in the public interest. We share insights and resources, provide capacity building and advisory services to peer organizations.
Media and ARTivism
We combine the catalytic deployment of legacy and new media tools with creative expression and the arts to inform, mobilize and sustain community engagement, dialogue, and action.
